Project Backround
The Nairobi City Water Distribution Network Modifications Project is being implemented by Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) with financing from the Government of Kenya, KfW Development Bank of Germany and the European Union (EU).
Lot 2 of the Project comprises of Construction of the Western Transmission (Kabete-Uthiru-Karen Pipeline). The main Works under the Project include:
i) Construction of Water Transmission Pipeline from Kabete to Uthiru to Karen, Steel Pipeline total length 14km, size 0.9m diameter (11km) and 0.5m diameter (3km),
ii) Reinforced Concrete Water Storage Tank at Uthiru, capacity 5000m3.
iii) Upgrading of the Kabete Pumping Station to increase capacity of the Kabete–Uthiru Pumping System from 30,000m3/d to 72,000m3/d.
The Project aims at improving Water Supply to the Western and South-Western parts of Nairobi including Kangemi, Mountain View, Uthiru, Waithaka, Riruta, Kawangware, Woodley, Langata, Karen.
The design transmission capacity of the Pipeline is 72,200 m3/day to serve a projected population of 886,000 persons within the Service Area by year 2035.
